History of All Hallows’ church, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

There are records of a church at this site dating back to the Doomsday book, however, the current church dates in part from the very early 13th century.  The south porch, complete with it’s chamber above the door is probably the the only part of this 13th century church still standing.  The tower was erected later in the 13th century, and the spire still later.  Most of the body of the church is 14th.

The 56 misericords appear to have originated at All Hallow’s, rather than being imported at a later date, which for the number, and quality indicates that this must have been a collegiate church, although I have not found records to substantiate this.

As per usual, the Civil war and the Commonwealth influenced the church, but thankfully, due to the Reverend Thomas Jones, a staunch  Royalist, the church survived intact and in certain respects, prospered.
