The Misericords of South West Churches.

This page list the churches with misericords on this website in the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.

Once again, this is a huge area, that does not lend itself to an homogenous description of the misericords, nor the reasons for their installation. Cornwall would have been rich, due to its extensive minerals, and these had been exploited since at least the bronze age, Devon, with its great trading ports would also have been wealthy. Dorset and Somerset, however, were not so fortunate. Gloucestershire, was another traditionally wealthy, again, it had its great port at Bristol along with several other ports along the Severn.
