History of New College Chapel, Oxford
New College Oxford, like most educational establishments of the time, were religious foundations and in this case the Chapel is not only the heart of the college, but also the most impressive building. The college was endowed with a permanent choir, to enliven services. Because of this, the choir has 62 misericords.
New College was founded in 1379, by the Bishop of Winchester, in conjunction with the Winchester College, which was to be a feeder for New College.
