Malpas

History of St Oswald’s Church, Malpas, Cheshire.

There is no mention of a church at Malpas in the Doomsday book,  but one was probably constructed in the late 11th or early 12th century.  Nothing of this structure now remains.

The present church, built of local red sandstone, was started in the late 14th century and consists of  a chancel, nave, tower and both north and south aisles, and 2 chantry chapels. The church was heavily reconstructed in the late 15th century when it was rebuilt from the level of the cill.by the addition of a clerestory. At this point the three misericords were installed. In 1717 the vestry was added.

As of November 2009 St Oswald’s Malpas does not appear to have its own website.
