History of St Mary the Virgin, Edlesborough, Buckinghamshire.

The earliest parts of St Mary the Virgin were started sometime in the late 13th Century. Although the Chantry was founded in 1338, it was considerably altered in the 15th century. The tower was added in 1340, which being built this soon after the chantry indicates that this was a rich parish. Much of the present look of St Mary's was formed in the 15th century. On March 28th 1824 the spire was struck by lightening, the resultant fire burned for 12 hours, with molten lead causing everything in it's path to catch fire, only skilful firefighting saved the church. Unfortunately, the church was closed as an a parish church in 1975,causing the Parish of Edlesborough to join with that of Eaton Bray and is now in the hands of the Redundant Churches Fund.

Due to the closure, they do not have a dedicated website, however the following sites have useful information.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Malcolm Griffiths of
St Mary's Eaton Bray for his invaluable help in research.
