History of St Mary’s Hospital, Chichester

The hospital was founded in the late 13th century, and the buildings date from this time, it was originally set up independently from the Cathedral  to be funded by a Christian foundation and supported by endowments.  Originally it was to give hospitality to pilgrims, travellers, vagrants and the poor, by the mid-16th  it was primarily used for permanent residents.

Although it does not  have its  own website, it does have a dedicated page on the Chichester Cathedral website.
