History of All Saints’ church, Bakewell
The initial foundation at Bakewell was around 920 AD - several carved remains of this Saxon church were found, including stone coffins, during the restoration of the present church in the 1840’s.
The present church was built during the 12th century, however only parts of the west front and some of the nave remain from this time, the rest dates from the next building phase in the second quarter of the 13th century. The spire was added around 1340, but by the 1840’s when the church was restored, the spire was considered dangerous, so was replaced. The font, choir stalls, with their misericords date from the early 14th century, for the 3 originals and 1881 for the other 19.
All Saints’ Bakewell does not appear to have its own website, however, the it does have a page on the Diocese of Derby site
